Day 146: Minor mishap on the road

South Africa

Changing the punctured tire

With all of the interesting forms of public transport that we’ve taken on our trip, surprisingly we’ve had no major issues while on the road.  So the first hiccup happening in our own rental car was just meant to be.  The day before we spent a couple of hours taking a “shortcut” on a dirt road in the middle of nowhere.  Our little Toyota Corolla is not the off-roading beast like those that passed us by and we were happy to get on a paved road again.  When we got out at the hostel we noticed the tire looked a little low so we filled it up and went to bed hopeful it would be ok in the morning.  As we walked out with our backpacks the next day ready to get a move on, we realized we had a puncture on our hands.  We weren’t NASCAR pit crew fast but it didn’t take long to switch it and we were thankful there was a full-sized spare in the trunk for us to get to Cape Town.
