We were pleasantly surprised to experience the luxurious, first-class like, 180 degree full recline buses in Peru on our way to Lima. We arrived to the country’s capital and largest city after waking up from a 12 hour overnight trip refreshed and ready to go. Founded by the infamous conquistador Francisco Pizarro in 1535, Lima was the seat of Spanish rule and most important city in the Spanish colonies for 300 years. The upscale neighborhood where we stayed, Miraflores, impressed us with its modern shopping areas, well-kept gardens, and flower-filled parks. Walking along the boardwalk in the midst of all the modernity made us forget we were in a still-developing country. We decided to try a free walking tour that took us to the Plaza de Armas which is the birthplace of the city and contains its historical center. After watching a lot of pomp and circumstance with the symbolic changing of the guard, we wandered through the tiny streets while passing the palaces, cathedrals, and monuments that compose the world heritage site.
Lima, capital, banhada pela costa pacífica, e maior cidade do Perú. E já que estamos na rota dos mochileiros, nada como parar um pouquinho por aqui e aproveitar o que Lima tem a nos oferecer. Diferença tremenda da nossa última parada, tudo aqui é super civilizado e parece até que estamos em outro país. Cidade antiga, com muita história para contar e nada como uma caminhada na Plaza de Armas para a beleza colonial tomar conta dos nossos olhos. Previlegiados em estarmos em Miraflores (bairro turístico) nos sentimos seguros em caminhar no calcadão, ver os surfistas peruanos pegando umas ondas e dar uma paradinha na praça do Amor para namorar (vários casais aqui se encontram e ficam se abraçando/beijando).
