Day 174: Our favorite museum in the world

The Museum of Football in São Paulo is the best museum that we have ever visited, hands down.  Located underneath the stands in the city’s historical municipal stadium, we first checked it out shortly after it was inaugurated in 2008.  The museum helps visitors understand how the elitist British sport of “football”, gradually gained popularity in Brazil and became a central component of the life and culture.  It also explains the connection between soccer and art, the impact on day to day life, the history of the World Cups, as well as some interactive games for the kids.  I could spend hours in the “Numbers and Curiosities” room reading every word and quirky stat like how a game in 1954 saw 22 players ejected for brawling.  Even if soccer isn’t someone’s preferred activity of choice, we recommend this museum to anyone who is/going to be in São Paulo because it is truly fantastic.  The highlights of the visit for Vitor and Julia were the interactive games as well as her anticipated first ride on the subway.

E para quem nunca foi, não sabe o que esta perdendo. Mesmo que você não goste de futebol, você vai chegar lá e não apenas se apaixonar, mas se arrepiar com o túnel do tempo que esse lugar fascinante tem a nos mostrar. Desde 2008 o museu ajuda os visitantes a entender melhor o grande futebol brasileiro, o impacto sobre a vida de um jogador, a história das copas além dos jogos interativos para as crianças. O museu fica praticamente em baixo das arquibancadas do Pacaembu, e além de conhecer um estádio de perto, você consegue relembrar os tempos ou aprender a jogar futebol de botão, se nunca teve a oportunidade.  Nada melhor que levar os sobrinhos para curtirem esse lugar incrível conosco além da aventura começar de verdade na primeira vez andando de metro!
