Fun at the Fan Fests

Ever since Brazil was chosen to host the World Cup we had pie in the sky plans to be around during the world’s greatest sporting event.  Watching things from afar during South Africa 2010, we promised ourselves to find a way to be in the “country of soccer” for the once in a lifetime occasion four years later.  Being blessed with the opportunity to make our plans a reality, we set ourselves up to be in Brazil with Márcia’s family for the entire month.  With multiple matches nearly every day for the first two weeks and then a steady schedule for another 15 days, our personal agenda was overloaded with couch time viewing of every game we could.  We arrived a couple of days before the opening ceremony and were pleasantly surprised that the preparations in São Paulo had seemingly lived up to the never-ending hype.  Undoubtedly there would be some hiccups, but our impression was that the country was ready to be the host that everyone had hoped for.  One of the highlights for each of the 12 host cities was the Fan Fest areas which brought together thousands of fans to watch live games on massive screens.  The giant viewing parties offered a way for people who couldn’t make it to the games in person to cheer on their teams and make fun with other supporters.  We stopped in the carnival-like atmosphere for several games and each time had an experience that rivaled actually being at the game.

Dentre muitos outros países, Brasil foi escolhido para sediar a Copa do Mundo de 2014. E um grande evento como esse, seria uma pena deixar passar batido, ser brasileiro e não estar no país do futebol para aproveitar a festa. Mas, como existem pessoas loucas para tudo, a poupança dos DeFoes para a copa, já estava sendo aplicada a muito tempo. E o pedido de demissão também foi em torno do evento mundial. Abençoados que somos, oportunidade única de estar aqui, aproveitar a família e ver a felicidade enorme do maridão assistindo a todos os jogos!!! E o medo… sim, não dá para mentir… Brasil, cheio de turista, sem estrutura, meus pensamentos não foram uns dos melhores, mas depois de chegar em São Paulo e ver a cidade organizada, desde aeroporto, até voluntários por uma copa legal nos estádios. Impressão boa de que Brasil esta pronto para o grande futebol. Um dos destaques das 12 cidades foi o Fifa Fan Fest. Espaço organizado, com um enorme telão, bandas nos intervalos dos jogos e diversão garantida para todos. Como tivemos alguns amigos visitando, aproveitamos muito o Anhangabaú de Sampa, e podemos dizer que estava ótimo. Feliz sim, de estar aqui e curtir cada momento de super empolgação do espírito de Copa.
