Day 332: Gone Bananas

Guatemala

Loads of street stall bananas

With more than 1,000 different types found around the world, the banana is one of the most popular fruits consumed across the globe.  It has been a steady snack in our travel diet and not just the traditional yellow “Chiquita” that we’re accustomed to either.  The variety in size, color, and firmness that we’ve seen and tasted, especially in Central America, continues to impress us.  Just in Guatemala there are more than 15 different kinds and we carry on our quest to sample every one.  A controversial past in the region has not stopped the banana trade and every day, streets are lined with stalls full of the “Banana Republic’s” namesake product.
