With an elevation of 354 feet and an almost a mile long, the Bridge of the Americas connects the two land masses separated by The Panama Canal. The United States finished construction in 1962 and it forms an integral part of the Pan-American Highway which connects the two continents. We got a peek while driving back from the Causeway Islands which sit a short distance from the mainland. The four small land masses are linked by the Amador Causeway which was created with rock extracted during excavations from the canal. The stretch provides gorgeous views of the majestic bridge, often with a parade of ships gliding underneath it or just waiting for their turn to cross the canal.
A Ponte das Américas é a única conexão entre o continente norte e o continente sul. Surgiu a necessidade da mesma, logo após a amplificação do Canal do Panamá. São 1654 metros de comprimento e 344 metros de altura. Em maré alta possui 61 metros acima do nível do mar. Cartão postal da cidade, a vista é ainda mais bonita do Amador causeway, pois é possível ver toda sua extensão de beleza. Hoje são mais de 35.000 carros que passam diariamente, além da calçada de pedestres que é muito transitada, principalmente pelos turístas.
