Day 64: Thanks for the welcome

Unfortunately, Márcia was fighting a stomach bug for four days by the time we got to Jakarta so she decided to take it easy for a day to try to recover.  I had reason to leave her to attend to things in the bathroom because I needed to turn in my Federal Write-In Absentee Ballot at the American Embassy.  I tried to make a day of it so I visited the National Museum for a while and even got yelled at by armed security guards in front of the Presidential Palace when I got too close to the gate.  After that, I walked down to the Hotel Indonesia Roundabout to see the Selamat Datang Monument.  It was built for the 1962 Asian Games and is a man and a woman with their arms outstretched waving a welcoming gesture.  The monument is supposed to symbolize the openness of the Indonesian nation to welcome visitors.  The athletes were staying at nearby hotels during the Games so it was visible to them throughout the competition.  I also decided to get another haircut at the “Executive Barbershop” and was surprised to get a short head and neck massage at the end as well as a minor “chiropractic adjustment”.  I was happy to make it back to the sick puppy and we were hopeful that she had passed through the worse.

Será que foi o Nasi Bakar? O que eu comi? Essa foi a pergunta que fiquei fazendo para eu mesma… mas não tive respostas. Nunca pensei que o banheiro fosse ser meu melhor amigo nesse momento que minha barriga doí de montão. Já era de se esperar que nossos estômagos ficassem dodoí, mesmo tomando cuidando com tudo que comemos, as vezes é difícil de controlar a vontade de experimentar coisas novas ou seja “coisas sujas”. Hoje fiquei no hotel e Bryan foi passear na cidade louca que é Jacarta. Na realidade ele precisava ir na embaixada americana votar e aproveitou para ficar passeando. Foi visitar o Palácio Presidencial, e quase foi expulso porque estava tentando tirar fotos proibidas. No caminho de volta passou em frente ao Hotel Indonésia Roundabout para ver um dos marcos da cidade, o monumento Selamart Datang. Construído para os jogos asiáticos de 1962, o “Bem vindo à Indonésia” que é composto por um homem e uma mulher acenando boas vindas aos atletas. Quando ele voltou para o hotel, além do gatorade de presente, estava com o cabelo cortado, agora no modelo indonésico (lindo!). Se eu estava melhor: Não, mas vai passar!
