Day 42: Lights Out

We had become accustomed to the local electricity limitations (14:00 – 06:00) in El Nido so adjusting to the schedule in Port Barton (17:30 – 00:00) wasn’t a huge deal.  Well, the first night the power went out at about 23:30 while I was taking a shower so I had to finish in the pitch black of night…  Amazingly people survived without any man-made energy for thousands of years so we knew we would be ok for a couple of hours everyday…  A cold shower actually does a great job of cooling the body down and who needs air conditioning with the ocean breeze around?  In the small village there are only two places with internet access and the connection is about as fast and reliable as the dial-up modems from 15 years ago.  The people here don’t seem nearly as concerned with staying “connected” as the visitors and it is probably just as well.  The tight-nit beach community is isolated from the modern world in a lot of ways but they seem content with the simple, safe, slow pace of life that we’re enjoying as well.

Se em El Nido pensamos que a eletricidade (das 14h às 6h) fosse bem pouca é porque não tinhamos chegado em Port Barton ainda. Aqui a eletricidade é apenas das 18h às 24h, pode acreditar, só isso. Que na realidade é um ótimo sinal porque realmente sentimos que estamos ajudando o mundo, e a pergunta é:  – Realmente precisamos de eletricidade durante o dia? – Não!!! Estamos nos virando muito bem sem energia… O banho morno é a única coisa que sentimos falta, principalmente pela manhã, mas o bom é que economizamos àgua também. E a internet? Ixiii, esqueçe, ainda mais que estamos em baixa temporada, eles nem computador tem mesmo, nem precisa, é praia o dia inteiro e depois da ensolação é só cair na cama. Ficar navegando pra que? Só assiste um filme, uma TV, joga uma conversa fora e pronto. É o que os locais fazem e nós imitamos porque nosso objetivo é viver a experiência.Existe apenas um restaurante aqui na cidade que tem Wi-Fi, o restante da comunicação é só por telefone. Portanto família e amigos, não fiquem preocupados que assim que tivemos acesso a internet postaremos maiores informações.
