Day 19: Sitting on the cutting edge

Japan

Japan is well known for being a world leader in developing new technologies and even the lavatories here are state of the art. Our apartment in Fukuoka had one of these modern toilets in a separate little room but unfortunately it didn’t come with a user manual in English… The arm hanging off the side is the command deck and controls what is done after you finish your business. The generic name for these sophisticated toilets is Washlets and besides water jet adjustments some of the available features include: seat heating, blow drying, massage, automatic flushing, automatic air deodorizing, automatic lid opening, and many more. After flushing, water even comes out of the little sink at the top for you to wash your hands. Since we arrived in Japan, the Washlet has easily been our preferred choice over the squat toilet

  1. We’ve already started looking into the possibility of becoming official Washlet distributors… Great suggestions…

  3. Bryan, Maybe you and Marcia could put a coupe of those washlets in your backpack and bring them home with you for the house you’ll need when you get back. Who knows? Since you don’t have a job, you might want to set up a distributorship and become an importer of Japanese Washlets, LLC, or some such! :-)
